What is Freeplane?

Freeplane is a powerful and free software for building the mind maps. It is a redesigned version of the well known FreeMind, and is created by one of FreeMind's key developers. The software is written in Java, and supports any platform capable of running current versions of Java, including:

• Microsoft Windows
• Mac OS X
• Linux / BSD / Solaris
• Portable Freeplane for Windows (runs from a USB drive)

Freeplane is available in several different languages. The currently available translations are: English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Russian, Croatian and Polish.

Freeplane is released under the GNU General Public License (GPL).

Getting Freeplane

First make sure you have installed a recent version of Java, 1.5 or above.

To download Freeplane, go to the SourceForge page, and click on the "Download Now!" button.

To run, use installer for Windows OS, adapted distribution for mac OS or simply extract the downloaded zipfile, and run the "freeplane.bat" file (Windows), or the "freeplane.sh" file (Unix) file.
