Embedding images - screenshots

Embedding images - screenshots

Postby moebiuus » Mon Jul 29, 2013 6:53 pm

Hi,
in the current stable version 1.2.23 it is complicated to insert a screenshot.
The image has to be stored as file first - also the image is only linked and not embedded inside the mm file.

Do you plan to add embedding of images?
If no, why not? Do you have to change the file format?
If yes, is there a rough release date?
Thanks!

If I understand you rightly, the following may help to solve yourproblem. First save yourMap.mm in a dedicated directory yourDirecory. Then make your screenshot and paste it on a selected node (you need not save the screenshot). Freeplane (1) automatically saves your screenshot in yourDirectory and (2) automatically creates a childnode with your screenshot. The only thing to remember is to keep both yourMap.mm and the screenshot together inside yourDirectory. If you remember this, this is the same as having the image inside the mindmap.

Hi Jokro,

thanks for your description, but thats exactly what i want to avoid:

1. no save screenshot as file dialog - just simply pasting an image into a node.
2. no x separate screenshot files

For email, sync and so on, i really would prefer to have only one file.
Whats the advantage on the current implementation? I cant see it...

Freeplane has a lot of features - formula, scripting, add-ons, latex, and so on - but
why is the basic handling not as simple as it can and should be?
Please improve freeplane on this side, not on the expert level!

PS: I saw that the file format is xml based, so it should be easy to embed binaries there (yes, i think
that it should also be possible to attach any kind of file to a node, sorry  )

When discussing Freeplane's file format keep in mind that it has a really long history as it stems from FreeMind. We have tried to keep compatibility in so far that both programs can load each others files. Changes of the file format have often been discussed though.
