1.3.7_02 with script API extension discussed in viewtopic.php?f=1&t=900 .
Also nodes fold and unfold when hovering on the dot/plus zone during drag-and-drop operation.

1.3.7 comments and request

Postby mdweinberg » Wed Mar 12, 2014 4:55 pm

I am very fond of the new Latex implementation.

I use freeplane for organizing the initial draft of scientific papers and this new feature is much better than the 1.2.x. FYI, I tried scrivener for a while but the information presentation and latex export in Freeplane works much better for me. And Docear seems overly complex.

Along these lines, I have a few feature requests: 1) it would be great to be able to construct Latex itemizations or enumerations; 2) ditto for including figure captions; and 3) more generally, it would be great to have a mechanism that allows more complex Latex constructions to be exported directly to the Latex file, even if they are not rendered in Freeplane.

Keep up the great work on this project!! It is much appreciated.

Sorry to follow up on my own post :).

Another nice feature would be the ability to include blocks of latex code, perhaps in *.tex files. That way, complex bits of latex that do not need to be visualized in the mind map can, nonetheless, be organized by the mind map and included in the exported Latex output.

hello,

We're glad to hear that the feature is useful for you!

1) it would be great to be able to construct Latex itemizations or enumerations

The LaTeX component used by Freeplane, JLaTeXMath
is focused on Math, not complete texts. That's why such environments are currently not supported.
We already hacked JLaTeXMath to support automatic linebreaks, but adding support for lists does not
seem to be easy. The JLaTeXMath project welcomes any such patches :-)

2) ditto for including figure captions

see above, but maybe you can work around this using a tabular with two rows?

3) more generally, it would be great to have a mechanism that allows more complex Latex constructions to be exported directly to the Latex file, even if they are not rendered in Freeplane

You can already create nodes with Format=LaTeX with stuff not supported by JLaTeXMath,
and the LaTeX export will export them unmodified. But you will get an ugly
"Error setting the text for the following input: ..." for those nodes :-(
=> Maybe we want a Format="Unparsed LaTeX" option and/or a "\unparsedlatex" prefix?
=> What do you think? Does somebody have a better idea?

Another nice feature would be the ability to include blocks of
latex code, perhaps in *.tex files. That way, complex bits of latex that do
not need to be visualized in the mind map can, nonetheless, be organized by

I suggest recognizing a "\latexinput{...}" node prefix and I think due to
the limitations of JLaTeXMath this should only be honored in the export.
=> What do you think?

Not sure if these changes will go into 1.3.x.

Best Regards,
Felix

Yes, I looked at the JLaTeXMath project to see how hard it would be to include the general list structures. Not too bad, I believe. I could implement that, but I'm spread thin with other things right now.

Hm. I'll try that out, thanks. Right now, I putting the caption in the following sibling node. It's easy enough to convert this to a caption in the Latex document. So this is not a big deal.

I'd defintely make use of an "Unparsed Latex" option. Meanwhile, I may try simply stuffing the latex I want into \latex nodes and see if that works for me. I had assumed, incorrectly, that the "Unparsed" error might be a problem down the line for the export. If not, these would be leaf nodes anyhow, so they would not wreck the "look" of the mind map.

That's the sort thing I was suggesting, exactly. Again, I defintely use it it were there.

Thanks, Felix!

hi mdweinberg,

1.3.7_03 has been uploaded which includes these changes.

Please read the documentation:
http://freeplane.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/LaTeX_in_Freeplane#.22Unparsed_LaTex.22_.28LaTeX_for_Export.29 and
http://freeplane.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/LaTeX_in_Freeplane#Including_LaTeX_content_from_file_system
and tell me whether something is missing / hard to understand.

Also, please test it thoroughly :-)

Thanks and Best Regards,
Felix
