Information management with Freeplane add-on

Felix,
The debugging process:

1. Install the enclosed debug addon: Write down for me the exact, complete path you would need to open in linux style
2. make a folder with one file. Write down for me the exact, complete path you would need to open the .log file (linux style)
3. start a fresh instance of Freeplane (this clears the log file)
4. Open a dashboard in the folder, generate an index.
5. save: press control-v; if the resulting filename has a slash, remove it by hand; and report this
6. upload this map file for me to check
7. upload the log file

8. Follow the same process unchecking "Tools > Preferences > diView> link is absolute". By the way, does the link work in this case ?

Regards
Jodi

hello Jodi,

- removing old add-on

- installing from /home/felix/doks/freeplane/debugIndexFile1/indexfile-v0.0.24.DEBUG.addon.mm

- created folder /home/felix/doks/freeplane/debugIndexFile1/folder with one file "foo.log"

- start a fresh freeplane instance

- create a type=basic dashboard (tools->diView->Dashboard-basic)
(saved the mindmap in /home/felix/doks/freeplane/debugIndexFile1/folder)
- generate an index: ("Number of files: 1")

- Save as, Ctrl+v: filename = (i)_folder(2014--freeplanedev)_B.mm :-)

tried to click on foo.log => "Unable to run the command specified. The file
or folder file:///home/felix/doks/freeplane/debugIndexFile1/folder/foo.log/
does not exist."

=> folder/* and log.0 attached in debugIndexFile1.zip.

-------------------------------

Now without Tools > Preferences > diView> hyperlink is absolute:
- created folder /home/felix/doks/freeplane/debugIndexFile1-rel/folder with one file "foo.log"

- start a fresh freeplane instance

- create a type=basic dashboard (tools->diView->Dashboard-basic)
(saved the mindmap in /home/felix/doks/freeplane/debugIndexFile1-rel/folder)

- generate an index: ("Number of files: 1")

- Save as, Ctrl+v: filename = (i)_folder(2014--freeplanedev)_B.mm :-)

-tried to click on foo.log => works :-)

=> folder/* and log.0 attached in debugIndexFile1-rel.zip.

---------------------------------

BTW: Can I add/update files and still keep the meta data (nodes underneath
file nodes)?

Thanks and Best Regards,
Felix

Hi Felix,
Thx for your effort.
I tried to replicate the error with newest version of Ubuntu - thanks to a kind neighbour and FP 1.2.
Remarkably everything worked as expected: Ctrl-v worked as expected (no extra slash). A single (!) click on each link opens the document or folder. Which FP version did you use ?

Then I looked down earlier problems. Some time ago I found that the add-on installer did (sometimes !?) not remove scriptlib.jar and indexfile.jar, so I had multiple copies (old and new) in <USERDIR>/lib. :!: Pleas remove all copies first, then reinstal version 0.0.25. (The latter version I adapted to your use case: all generated nodes at first child level can have details, notes and children added by you for annotations. See help file.). I hove this will solve your problem, Please let me know. Then I will further scrutinize the logs.

Regards
Jodi

hello Jodi,

thanks to you for enabling my use case!! It seems my use case is supported
by absolute_hyperlinks=false and max_moved_outside_index>>100 [1] :-)
I can even copy the folder to another location and it still works :-)

With absolute_hyperlinks=true I still get URLs with a trailing '/' (I am using 1.2.23,
did remove ~/.freeplane/1.2.x/lib/*.jar and unstalled + reinstalled 0.0.25).

BTW: I can name the index mindmap any way I want, right? I think "index.mm"
is enough for me ;-)

BTW2: I was missing tooltips in the prefs, but then I found your excellent
help mindmap :-)

[1] though I am not sure that really all 68 logfiles are really converted
to nodes.

Thanks and Best Regards,
Felix

Hi Felix,

thanks to you for enabling my use case

I have uploaded a new Basic dashboard, which better suits this solution (Less free space for node abovenode Index).

With absolute_hyperlinks=true I still get URLs with a trailing '/'

Got it now. Windows accepts this and therfore it went unnoticed. Solved in v0.0.26

by absolute_hyperlinks=false and max_moved_outside_index>>100 [1] :-)

Solution ok or do prefer to annotate children of Index node ?

though I am not sure that really all 68 logfiles are really converted to nodes.

I can't imagine, but if so I would like to know the problem  !!

I can name the index mindmap any way I want, right?

Right. naming convention is useful when implementing a DMS type of solution.

Thnx for your effort to improve indexfile for linux. I am glad I know now that most of my solutions were linux compliant. :D

Thnx and best regards
Jodi

If you send your revision I will add them to the add-on. Did add menu and Help file to v0.0.15 already.

Hi Jodi,
I'm sorry but it's been a busy week. Here is the latest update for v.0.24. I hope it´s all corrected. The add-on file includes the latest translated node:

Let me know if something needs correction.

Sounds good, I'll try it soon.

Great!

For me the current solution is perfectly OK.

I can't imagine, but if so I would like to know the problem  !!

I didn't mean to say it's buggy, I thought maybe I'd forgot to set a parameter.

Pedro,
1. included your files. Removed figure as a workaround to a loader problem.
2. Simplification: I removed preference "Maximum moved outside index": except for dashboard folders, all indexed nodes are displayed on top of node Index (Also adapt Help, text of menu new Basic dashboard !). There is no difference between the dashboard types (except for dashboard folders). If it is necessary, the options to exclude folders can solve situations in which less folders should be displayed.

Felix,
1. See point 2 above. I have speeded up indexing for your use case, I hope.
2 Did you proceed with the loader 1.3 problem ? Did you see remarks for you in Mantis ?

Regards
Jodi

Hi, after reading your notes I became very interested in indexfile addon, but as I tried to load I got this error, because I'm not a programmer I do not know how to proceed to install the last version 00.27 (see the java heap space error)
2014-01-28 21_28_34-.png
(8.32 KiB) Downloaded 58 times

My version of FP and Java is
2014-01-28 21_29_26-.png
(10.03 KiB) Downloaded 53 times

I've found in the past I've downloaded the v00.11 and it was well installed. I do not succed to upgrade it to 00.27.
Eventually I got all the features with this version? What is missing? I need to test if this addon is suiting appropriately my need of managing multile projects generating a lot of files and info often interconnected.

Thank you

Hi spcv,
You are using the beta version 1.3 of Freeplane. It has an issue with installing big add-ons. This problem is being worked on.

You can install the add-on with the production version of Freeplane, 1.2. Next you can use it with the beta version 1.3 you ar using now.

Note there is version 0.0.28 with improved look and feel for big folders. Note also the improved Help.

Have fun and don't forget to report your opinion.

Regards
Jodi
